As a founding member of the Willamette Valley Oak Accord, Fairsing Vineyard is deeply-rooted in a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Administered by the Willamette Partnership, a local 501 c(3), the Oak Accord is a voluntary pledge by landowners to nurture and preserve the native Oregon White Oak habitat, providing vitality and diversity to our dedicated ecosystem (and not to mention healthy and balanced vines).

The fundamental keystone to biodiversity is oak habitat

Prior to European settlement the Oregon White Oak covered a vast swath of the valley; now less than 3% of this majestic habitat remains.

The founding members of the Willamette Valley Oak Accord congregated at Sokol Blosser Winery in March of 2017 to publicly sign the pledge. The Willamette Partnership oversees efforts of participants by providing an ecologist to conduct baseline assessments of existing oak habit and score of each property weighting vegetation, natural and human disturbances and the desired types of oak habitat.

Fairsing completed phase one in August of 2017 hosting ecologist and Omaha, NE native Greg Fitzpatrick, who conducted the baseline site assessment of the entire estate.

In January of 2018 Fairsing procured 30, four year-old oak trees from Mahonia Nursery in Salem, OR. Mahonia Nursery, themselves a founding signatory of the Accord, specializes in transplanting and rehabilitating Oregon White Oaks which would otherwise be destroyed or lost to development.

Site selection for the oak trees and initial planting commenced at the beginning of March 2018 under the careful eye of Estate Assistant Roberto Villa. Fairsing recently acquired a number of more mature oaks slated for planting at the southeastern edge of the property.

An ever-evolving project, Fairsing eagerly looks to the future as we augment our special corner of the world. We will continue to share updates as efforts continue. For more information visit willamettepartnership.org/oak-accord.
